Bed frame dimensions: real footprints by size
A bed frame's outer footprint is larger than its mattress, and the difference depends on the model. On IKEA's US pages, the MALM Queen frame measures 66⅛ × 83⅛ in (168 × 211.1 cm) and the TARVA Queen 63 × 82¼ in (160 × 208.9 cm), both for a 59⅞ × 79½ in mattress. Neither page publishes the internal clearance, so you can compare a mattress with the frame's stated mattress size but cannot confirm the fit from these figures alone.

Every figure was read from the maker's own product page (linked in the first column) on 2026-09-24. The UK MALM is published in centimetres and converted here. "Adds" is the outer size minus the stated mattress size, our subtraction. IKEA's TARVA King page lists an outer width of 63 in, narrower than the 76 in mattress it says the frame holds, so we record that footprint as unknown until IKEA clarifies it. None of the cited frame pages publishes an internal clearance.

Frames sold for the same mattress size can have different footprints: the MALM Queen is 3⅛ in wider and ⅞ in longer than the TARVA Queen, although both take the same mattress. Check floor space against the outer size of the frame you plan to buy.

IKEA does not publish the internal clearance of these frames, so each check compares published sizes. It does not confirm that a mattress will fit, and a size name alone never does.

Is a Full bed 53 or 54 inches wide?
Target and Sleep Foundation give a Full mattress as 54 in wide. IKEA builds its US Full frames for a 53⅛ in mattress, and Tuft & Needle's Full mattress is 54 in. Check the frame's stated mattress size against the mattress you are buying.
What size is a 60 × 80 bed frame?
That is the mattress size of a US Queen, not the frame size. The frame is larger: 63 × 82¼ in (TARVA) to 66⅛ × 83⅛ in (MALM) in our table.
What does a 14-inch bed frame mean?
A single figure such as 14 inches cannot be a footprint, which always has a width and a length. Check which measurement the listing means; it is often the height. For comparison, IKEA lists 8¼ in of space under the MALM frames in our table.
